Copper & Copper Splash
Took A Trip In April To Nature's Treasures in Austin
In April 2022, I took a trip to Austin, TX, and got to explore a local gem and crystal shop there. The store is called Nature’s Treasures and they had a lovely display of minerals, metals, gemstones, and elements.
The photo below is of a copper splash sculpture. These are art forms made from splashing molten copper onto a stainless steel table and then dousing it with cold water. Next, it is allowed to cool.
When it's cooled, the result is a unique freeform sculpture that has an uneven surface that shows burst bubbles in some areas with lacelike surfaces in other areas of the sculpture.
After it has cooled, the artist then takes a blowtorch and scours it to maximize the colorization of the surface areas with striations and bright purple or magenta swirls. You can learn more about the process here. The photo below is a zoomed-in shot of a surface area of a copper splash sculpture.
