Shungite is 2 Billion years old
and protects against EMFs.
Shungite is a rare type of carbon with unknown origins. When I went to meet and interview Elon Musk, one of the gifts I gave him was a coaster made from Shungite. We even briefly spoke about the mineral being 2 billion years old.
I Gave Elon Musk A Shungite Coaster
We were talking about another mineral, Tranquillityite when Elon said:
"It's crazy how old the rock is you know."
I replied, “Yeah it's like billions--and that Shungite I just gave you is over two billion years old.”
Elon’s reaction was the same as mine when I first learned about the mineral.
“That's loooong time you know. Don't hold your breath."
I told him that there is no known source of the mineral and he said,
"It's hard to even--you can't wrap your mind around that kind of time scale. Really, a billion years. I mean, our life spans are a flash in the pan.”
Shungite is a rare stone made of up to 99% carbon. It was discovered in Shunga, a village in Karelia, Russia.
Shungite is the only known natural source of fullerenes which are 3D spherical molecules made of 60 carbon atoms. They are hollow and are also known as buckyballs.
Healthline has a great article on Shungite that you can read here.
What Are EMFs?
Electromagnetic frequencies are frequencies that are emitted from your phones, computers, and other electronic devices. Cancer.gov noted that these fields are invisible areas of energy and are also called radiation--produced by electricity. Radiofrequency radiation comes from wireless telecommunication devices such as our phones, smartwatches, and the like.
The FCC pointed out that there is a possible link between exposure and tumor formation in animals but these are established under certain specific conditions.
The FDA says that to date, there is no credible scientific evidence of health problems caused by exposure to radiofrequency energy that's emitted by cell phones.
However, the idea of protecting oneself from these frequencies is highly popular and there are many minerals that naturally absorb or block them. Shungite is one of the most popular ones in this category.
Fullerenes Found In Shungite Kill Bacteria And Viruses.
Healthline noted that the fullerenes found in Shungite are a certain type of carbon nanostructure (CNS).
These are different physical forms of carbon and a 2017 review of studies found that they can destroy harmful pathogens.
They work by damaging the cell walls of bacteria and viruses. Also, when CNS interacts with microbes, the microbes lose electrons and die.
Shungite Purifies Water.
I once conducted an experiment with tap water a few years ago. I took several pieces of Shungite and filled a glass jar with tap water and added the Shungite. Then I placed a paper towel over it and put it in a dark corner for three weeks.
After the three weeks had passed, several friends and I held a taste test with the water. We sipped the tap water first then the Shungite water. When I told them that the Shungite water was made with tap water, they did not believe me.
I drink Shungite water every day. Healthline noted that Shungite has been used to purify water since ancient times. And a study conducted in 2018 found that Shungite can filter water by removing contaminants and organic substances such as pesticides. Another study conducted in 2017 found that the carbon from Shungite removes radioactive compounds from water. You can read about those here.
